Most Juris users are familiar with using Text Codes to help them save time when creating Time Entry narratives. They can actually be utilized in multiple areas of Juris to help save you even more time throughout the day.
Text Codes can be used in the following areas in Juris:
- Time Entry narratives and notes in batches or on Prebills
- Expense Entry narratives and notes in batches or on Prebills
- Payment voucher reference
- Credit Memo narrative
- Trust Adjustment description
- Manual Bill narrative
- Client, Matter, Timekeeper, User IDs, Vendors and Chart of Accounts notecards
- Client and Matter billing fields
- Matter description
- Matter remarks
- Summary text for summary bills
- A/R Aging Notes in Bill Designer
One example of a way to save time with text codes:
Do you have a vendor that requires a great deal of detail in the Payment Voucher reference field? While some of the information may change from voucher to voucher, other information is common among all vouchers for that vendor. This is where a text code shortcut can be used to save time and enable consistency. Here’s a sample of what that might look like:
Payment in full for Invoice #12345 dated 01/08/2015. Transcription services for Client #1000 / Matter #0002 in Case #14-CV12345 in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court.
The items in bold are the pieces of information that change from voucher to voucher, but the rest of the text was generated by expanding a text code*. After expanding the text code, simply replace the blank spaces with the voucher-specific information. The Text Code narrative was entered as follows:
Payment in full for Invoice #______ dated DD/MM/YYYY. Transcription services for Client #______ / Matter #_______ in Case #___________ in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court.
Start thinking about all the ways your firm could use text codes to help improve efficiency in client intake, accounts payable, write offs, etc. to ensure you are getting the most out of text codes in Juris.
*The keyboard shortcuts for expanding Text Codes are F2 in Juris and CTRL + SPACEBAR in Juris Suite.
